It can be a simple typeface, but it usually is a designed logo.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Sell Line<\/strong> is a short phrase or sentence to attract the reader. &#8220;The Modern Guide to Movies&#8221; tells the reader what the magazine is about, and who it will appeal to.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The Dateline<\/strong> has the sell date for the issue. It may also have an issue number. Other things that may be included in the same block of text: price, web site.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Splash, Cover Lines, Barcode<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/lbmslab.org\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/COVER-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-518\" src=\"https:\/\/lbmslab.org\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/COVER-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"949\" height=\"843\" srcset=\"https:\/\/lbmslab.org\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/COVER-2.jpg 949w, https:\/\/lbmslab.org\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/COVER-2-300x266.jpg 300w, https:\/\/lbmslab.org\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/01\/COVER-2-768x682.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 949px) 100vw, 949px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A splash<\/strong> is a badge that doesn&#8217;t strictly follow the layout of the cover. Here, it&#8217;s a ring of stars with text in the middle. It could also be a solid shape.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cover lines<\/strong> tell the reader the stories to expect inside. The largest cover lines almost always connect to the main picture on a cover.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The barcode<\/strong> is \u00a0the price code for the magazine. If your magazine has multiple images, make sure one of them stands out as the main image.<\/p>\n<p>Notice that some parts of the picture are behind the text, and others are in front. How did the designers decide the sections that of text that could be covered?<\/p>\n<p>This is not the only way to lay out a magazine cover! Look online for other styles before you start!<\/p>\n<p>Your cover should have at a minimum:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A Masthead<\/li>\n<li>A Dateline<\/li>\n<li>A main image created by you. It could be a photo or an illustration, but you have to create it.
